Masks.

“It is a life of make-believe, of masks. We all have masks in life.”-Judd Nelson

Masks. Everyone has worn one. Halloween, masquerades, just for the fun of it. Masks hide our faces. The one thing that can show our true feelings, if we let it. I wear a mask almost everyday. Not literally. Could you picture that? That would only call attention to myself, which is the opposite reason why I wear masks. These masks are unnoticeable, undetectable. I wear them to hid my anger, stress, sadness, you name it, I have a mask for it. Masks can be worn for other reasons too, I suppose. They can be worn to fool someone into thinking your someone else. I guess I wear these masks too. Many people do. You know those girls who are such sweet hearts to you face, and then the moment you turn around, they are vicious, rumor-starting b!itches? They wear masks. How about those kids who used to be so weird, but are now “normal”? They wear them, too. And those kids who seem to have enough confidence in them to share with at least twenty other people and still not seem at all insecure? I could bet you a million bucks that they are wearing a mask of some sort… and I would be one rich kid. I swear to you, absolutely everyone does, whether they know it or not, whether they try to get rid of them or not. I wear these masks so I won’t be made fun of. I hide my thoughts and opinions because I know they are wacky and no where near normal. When I was younger, I didn’t wear masks. No one did. Those were the best times. You could be whoever you liked because masks were non-existent, except for maybe around Halloween. Sometimes I try not to wear masks, but even then, when I look back at those moments, I can see that there was still a mask. Try to think of your masks. Do you have any that you can think of? Mine are: “Happy-Go-Lucky” “Confidence” “Stupid” and so many more. Why do we ever wear them? Hiding is for people who have done something wrong, or for little kids (or for the young at heart) to play hide-and-seek, right? Someday, I hope, we are all able to rid off out masks and show off our real faces. Until then, we can thank society for the life we're living behind ourmasks.

What makes you truly happy?

Posted by JillianElizabethx on February 19, 2011 at 1:10 PM Comments comments (1)

This is a question I was asked a couple of days ago. And I had no idea how to answer it! Sure, I could have taken the easy way out and said that hearing the birds chirp in the morning and watching a romantic movies with the happiest endings ever make me the happiest, but that would be a bold faced lie because I despise the morning and chick flicks make me gag a little. So I had to try to actually think. More stereotypical things came to mind: sunshine, rainbows, butterflies, and cakes. No, no, no, and I want to say "yes", but I’m trying to “diet”, so no. Then my little radio that plays in my head reminded me of how much I love music. I love music that I coud jam to for hours without noticing that any time has passed and I just wasted half of my day listening to a couple songs. But thats not the ony reason I love music, it also keeps me sane! Say, I was in the most pissed off mood cause the world is ending and other typical things that teenagers get absurdly upset about. As soon as I pop my earphones in and press that magical play button on my iPod, I am in a peaceful heaven, even if the song is anything but calm and serene. THAT is when I am truly the happiest. Then as I thought a little more, (and wished I had my iPod to bring my happy place) I realized that it wasn’t my only happy place. I guess you can say art is my passion. Being completely absorbed in a picture is my own heaven on earth. Like music, something I'm working on can transport me to a place where I have no stupid teenage problems and no stupid teenage drama. Its where I feel the most at peace with life. It’s kind of hard to explain it and it may seem a little weird, but its true. And that is exactly what I was trying to figure out, I suppose. So, what makes you truly happy? Is it kittens with mittens? Or is it your own passion?

Leave a comment below and share that makes you happy or advice for others to find their "happy place"!

Summary:

What makes me truly happy?

Jamming to music and being absorbed in a drawing, which is my passion.

What makes you happy?
